چکیده
A 67-year-old man presented with unilateral weakness and reduced dexterity four months after autolo- gous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation for multiple myeloma. The progressed over the following months, accompanying cognitive sensory symptoms. Brain MRI showed numerous hyper- intense T2 lesions within subcortical white matter of both cerebral hemispheres suggestive demy- elination, progressing rapidly on interval imaging. His CSF tested positive JC virus, diagnostic PML. This diagnosis was unexpected as patient did not appear to be significantly immunocompromised PML is extremely rare in patients Treatment progressive multifocal leukoen- cephalopathy via restoring immune function; our no reversible cause immuno-suppression present. At time patient’s treatments had been shown effective against clinical trials. However, last year pembrolizumab BK virus specific T-cell therapy have demonstrated efficacy published trials, offering new hope patients. Clinicians should consider a when assessing neurological symptoms signs treatment myeloma other haematological conditions, particularly efficacious can now given if diagnosed early. [email protected]

BACKGROUND Autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) for progressive multiple sclerosis (MS) may reset the immune repertoire. OBJECTIVE The objective of this paper is to analyse lymphocyte recovery in patients with progressive MS treated with ASCT. METHODS Patients with progressive MS not responding to conventional treatment underwent ASCT following conditioning with high-dose cyclophosph...
متن کاملSingle versus double autologous stem-cell transplantation for multiple myeloma.
BACKGROUND We conducted a randomized trial of the treatment of multiple myeloma with high-dose chemotherapy followed by either one or two successive autologous stem-cell transplantations. METHODS At the time of diagnosis, 399 previously untreated patients under the age of 60 years were randomly assigned to receive a single or double transplant. RESULTS A complete or a very good partial resp...
متن کاملAutologous stem cell transplantation for multiple myeloma: history and future
Over the last decade, high-dose therapy supported by autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) has been the standard frontline therapy for younger patients with multiple myeloma (MM). But recently, the treatment strategy has been dramatically changed after the introduction of novel agents such as thalidomide, bortezomib and lenalidomide. These agents have been incorporated into induction ther...
متن کاملAutologous Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation for Multiple Myeloma without Cryopreservation
High-dose chemotherapy followed by autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is considered the standard of care for multiple myeloma patients who are eligible for transplantation. The process of autografting comprises the following steps: control of the primary disease by using a certain induction therapeutic protocol, mobilization of stem cells, collection of mobilized stem cells by a...
